How to play

Spew is a real-time, head-to-head word battle. Each round, you and your opponent get the same eight letters. Build the strongest word you can and lock it in. When you both have, the words collide, and the gap between your scores (times four) is the damage. Knock your opponent from 100 HP to zero to win.

The full walkthrough is in the app: tap the gear on the home screen, then How To Play.

Common questions

Do I need an account?

No. Quick Match, rooms with friends and Practice all work as a guest. Signing in (Apple, Google or email) adds ranked matches, a permanent username, a Clash Rating and badges.

Can I change my username?

Usernames are permanent once set, so choose carefully. If yours is offensive or was set by mistake, email us and we’ll sort it out.

How do I report a player or an offensive name?

Email us with the player’s name and roughly when you played. There’s no chat in Spew (only a set of preset emoji), and offensive usernames are blocked automatically, but tell us if one gets through.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, open Settings (the gear on the home screen) and tap Delete account. It’s immediate and removes your account, username, rating, badges and friends. You can also email us from the address on your account and we’ll do it for you. See the privacy policy for exactly what that covers.

My match froze or I got disconnected.

Spew rejoins your match automatically when your connection comes back. Keep the app open and stay on a stable connection. If a match gets stuck, leave it and start a new one, and let us know what happened.

Why didn’t my word count?

Words must be at least 3 letters and in Spew’s dictionary, which leaves out proper nouns, abbreviations and offensive words. If you think a real word was wrongly rejected, email it to us.

Is Spew on Android?

Not yet. You can play in your browser at spewspew.com in the meantime.
